NAR Awards Process and Rules

These are the processes and rules that will be used to guide the NAR Music Awards. The rules will be strictly enforced and adhered to. There will be no exceptions.

Nomination Process

1.       All Broadcasters (Show Hosts) that have reported Top 20 Lists to NAR during the time period December 2006 thru November 2007 are eligible to participate in both the Nomination and Award Voting process.

2.       Each Broadcaster (Show Hosts) will be asked to nominate five (5) selections in as many categories as they feel comfortable providing nominations.

3.       Recordings eligible for nomination will be restricted to recordings that were Top 50 of the NAR Top 100 chart from December 2006 thru November 2007 (except for "Album of the Year" which was restricted to recording in the Top 10).  A listing of all eligible recordings, by category,  will be available on the NAR website starting on Sunday January 13th, 2008 . Only those recordings appearing in this listing will be eligible.  Write in candidates will not be accepted.

4.        All voting will be done electronically.

5.       Voters are asked to select up to five (5) recordings in each category.  Nomination voting will being on Monday January 21st, 2008 and will close on Friday February 8th, 2008.

6.       All nominations will by tabulated by NAR and the top five in each category will be the finalists. If by chance there is a tie in a category, a 5-point tiebreaker will be used to determine the top 5 finalists (see Tie Breaker).

7.       Finalists will be announced and posted on the NAR website on Sunday February 10th, 2008 and all finalists will be notified by email.

 

Award Voting Process

1.       The award-voting panel will consist of all of the Broadcasters (Show Hosts) who participated in the initial nomination process, RJ Lannan and Bill Binkelman (NAR).

2.      Each member of the voting panel will be requested to electronically select a finalist in as many categories they feel comfortable  voting in.

3.       Voting members may vote for only one winner in each category. 

4.       All Finalist votes will be tabulated by NAR.

6.       There will only be one winner in each category.  If by chance there is a tie in a category, a 5-point tiebreaker will be used to determine the winner (see Tie Breaker).

7.       Finalist award voting will begin on Monday February 18th, 2008 and will close on Wenesday March 5th, 2008.

8.     Awards will be announced on the NAR website on Sunday March 9th, 2008 .

 

 

Tie Breakers

The Top 100 chart data will serve to break all ties. The data used will be taken from the Top 100 charts during the period covering December 2006 thru November 2007. The tie is broken upon one of the recordings winning one of the tiebreakers listed below. The tiebreakers are listed in order they will be applied.

1.       The accumulated Top 50 chart score of each recording.  The highest point total wins.

2.       Number of months in the Top 5

3.       Number of months in the Top 10

4.       Highest position on the chart.

5.       Number of months in the Top 100 chart
